Course Overview

The National Diploma Programme in Marketing/Purchasing and Supply is to produce diplomats with appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge to efficiently carry out middle level marketing activities in industry, public service and as entrepreneurs.

At the end of the ND programme, the diplomats should be able to:

  • use the basic principles that guide marketing practice;
  • utilize quantitative and qualitative research based evidence in marketing practice;
  • identify and exploit market opportunities innovatively and proactively;
  • use entrepreneurial skills as employees and entrepreneurs;
  • identify and analyze marketing problems and design marketing strategies to overcome them;
  • interprete and assist in the execution of overall corporate policies;
  • assist in the preparation of marketing plans;
  • write marketing reports;
  • assist in the efficient execution of marketing communication strategies;
  • apply product and brand management skills;
  • assist in the efficient execution of pricing policies and strategies;
  • appreciate relevant concepts and principles of economics and apply them in marketing situations;
  • apply principles of accounts to different types of transactions;
  • understand the basic principles of law and apply same to marketing relationships and transactions;
  • assist in the efficient execution of sales and distribution of goods and services;
  • help in the implementation of purchasing tasks;
  • communicate effectively;
  • apply information and communication technology effectively in marketing;

Entry Requirement ND

The general entry requirements for the ND progoramme are: WASC, NECO, GCE 'O' Level or the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) or their equivalent with five credits including English Language and Mathematics (Literature in English and Oral English are not acceptable in place of English Language) and three other subjects from economics, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Commerce, History, Statistics, Geography, Government, Agric Science/Biology.

A credit pass in N.B.T.E. recognized Pre National Diploma Examination.

Entry Requirement HND

The entry requirements for the HND in Marketing/Purchasing and Supply are;

A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA of 2.50) in ND Marketing, ND in Purchasing and Supply or related programme and a minimum of one year post- ND Cognate work experience.

Further Education:

An ND graduate with CGPA of 2.50 and above can apply for direct entry to university for B.ScMarketing, Purchasing and other related business courses.

A HND holder with CGPA 2.50 and above can also apply for direct entry for B.Sc in Marketing, Purchasing and other Business related courses.

A HND holder with at least 3.00 CGPA is also qualified to apply for Post Graduate Diploma (P.GD) in management which will qualify the candidate to apply for MBA or M.Sc in management or other Business related courses.

Career Opportunities:

Graduates of this program can seek employment with government agencies such as public works, parks and recreation, housing, transportation or numerous others at the local, state or federal level. Depending on the concentration of study, they can also find opportunities in education, healthcare or law enforcement. Also, the course provides an excellent training for further studies leading to post-graduate studies like MBA or MA/MSC and PHD degree programmes in Finance Economics, Financial Management, Banking, Accountancy, Research Assignment, etc.
