Course Overview

This program is designed to prepare you to be a leader and manager in government, private or nonprofit organizations. The need for leadership in these mission-oriented entities couldn't be greater. Given the large numbers of top managers entering retirement, new leaders equipped to tackle the most pressing issues of these organizations are in demand.

ND Programme is aimed at producing diplomats that:

  • Know the general principles of public administration
  • Understand the historical development of public administration
  • Know the responsibilities of a chief executive
  • Comprehend the similarities and differences between business and public administration
  • Understand some environmental factors that influence public administration
  • Comprehend basic personnel practices
  • Know the various controls on administration
  • Know the concept of Bureaucracy

The Graduate of the HND Public Administrationprogramme should be able to:

  • Run organizations and oversee policy development and administration.
  • Tackle the most pressing issues of these organizations.
  • Gain entry or advancement as an administrator, manager, or leader.
  • Acquire skills include organizational leadership, fiscal administration, political advocacy, and program management Entry Requirements ND .

To qualify for a place in the department of Public Administration , five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any other three subjects from the following: Economics, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Commerce, History, Statistics, geography, Government Agric Science/Biology obtained at not more than two sittings.

A credit pass in N.B.T.E. recognized pre National Diploma Examination.

Entry Requirements HND.

The entry requirements for the HND in Public Administration are;

  • A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA of 2.50) in ND Public Administration or related programme and a minimum of one year post- ND Cognate work experience.

Further Education:

An ND graduate with CGPA of 2.50 and above can apply for direct entry to university for B.Sc in Public Administration and other related business courses.

A HND holder with CGPA 2.50 and above can also apply for direct entry for B.Sc in Public Administrationand other Business related courses.

A HND holder with at least 3.00 CGPA is also qualified to apply for Post Graduate Diploma (P.GD) in management which will qualify the candidate to apply for MBA or M.Sc in management or other Business related courses.

Career Opportunities:

Graduates of this degree program can seek employment with government agencies such as public works, parks and recreation, housing, transportation or numerous others at the local, state or federal level. Depending on the concentration of study, they can also find opportunities in education, healthcare or law enforcement. Also, the course provides an excellent training for further studies leading to post-graduate studies like MBA or MA/MSC and PHD degree programmes in Finance Economics, Financial Management, Banking, Accountancy, Research Assignment, etc.
