COURSE OVERVIEW:

The course Building Technology is one of the dynamic courses in Imo State Polytechnic. We aim at providing a basic and essential understanding of the physics associated to buildings and to offer an overview and a general idea of the range of issues that have to be sufficiently combined to offer the occupants a functional, Physical and Psychological well-being. Our students will be guided through the diverse and various constraints, components and systems of a work of architecture. Ultimately these will be examined both independently and in the manner in which they affect and interact one another.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS ND:

To qualify for entry into the department of Building Technology, 5 Credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and two subjects from:  Economics/Commerce, Technical Drawing/Fine Art, Chemistry, Geography, Further Mathematics, Wood Work, Biology, Religious Knowledge, Metal Work. A Pass in Art or Technical Drawing will be an advantage.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS HND:

The entry requirements for the HND in Building Technology ar

(a) A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA of 2.50) in ND in Building Technology or related programme and a minimum of one year post- ND Cognate work experience.

 

FURTHER EDUCATION:

An ND graduate with CGPA of 2.50 and above can apply for direct entry to university for B.Sc in Building technology and other related Environmental courses.

A HND holder with CGPA 2.50 and above can also apply for direct entry for B.Sc in Building technology and other Environmental related courses.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

Building technology is an enormous industry that offers different range of career opportunities with different degrees of education and training requirements. So many professionals individuals with training in building technology are also employed as construction workers, whilst others with more advanced education in this fieldwork as engineers and architects. The construction industries offer a variety of occupational options, Other construction employees include installation and mechanical workers, such as heating and air-conditioning professionals, Project managers. Some supervisors also consult with architects’ plans to ensure that every phase of a project is finished on schedule and to specifications.
