COURSE OVERVIEW:

The Department of Forestry Technology is a leading department in Polytechnics dedicated to research and teaching in Forestry technology. In the Department of Forestry technology our focus is not only at imparting or giving out just the theoretical knowledge but also at giving better and greater emphasis to the practical experience in the field and the development of appropriate and necessary skills of the students through intensified practical works. The courses are designed to lay more emphasis on “do-it-yourself” exercises which is backed up with sufficient training and supervision by our staff.

                                                  

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS ND:

Candidates for admission into the department of forestry technology are required to possess the minimum entry requirement as stipulated:  Five SSCE credit passes in Biology, Agric Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and at least a pass in English.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS HND:

The entry requirements for the HND in Forestry Technology are;

(a) A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA of 2.50) in ND in Forestry Technology or related programme and a minimum of one year post- ND Cognate work experience.

 

FURTHER EDUCATION:

ND graduate with CGPA of 2.50 and above can apply for direct entry to university for B.Sc in Forestry Technology and other related Environmental courses.

A HND holder with CGPA 2.50 and above can also apply for direct entry for B.Sc in Forestry Technology and other Environmental related courses.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

There are various career opportunities in places like Government establishments such as the State, Federal, and Local Government , Environment and Forestry Departments, Universities and Research Institutes, employment  opportunities  exist  in  paper industries, oil exploration and production industries, international and local Non-Governmental organizations (NGOs), Landscaping, Recreation and tourism Industries, National Parks. Environmental Impact Assessment Consultancy Services and Environment Offices in the private sectors of the economy.  Above all a self-employed career is highly poverty alleviating.
