COURSE OVERVIEW:

The Course Urban and Regional Planning equips students with skills needed to analyze and develop solutions to the growth and development issues facing communities across the nation, and globally. The program emphasizes the social, economic, and natural forces that govern how communities and society are shaped. Students have an opportunity to specialize in specific aspects of community and regional planning and development issues along with internship and service-learning experiences locally, nationally, and/or internationally.

Entry Requirements ND:

To qualify for a place in the department of Urban and Regional Planning the entry requirement is 5 credits at not more than two sittings in SSCE, WASSCE, NECO, or its equivalent in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Geography and any two subjects from Chemistry, Biology/Agric. Science, Economics and Technical Drawing. The prospective Candidate must have at least a pass in Physics.

Entry Requirements HND:

The entry requirements for the HND in Urban and Regional Planning are;

(a) A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA of 2.50) in ND in Urban and Regional Planning or related programme and a minimum of one year post- ND Cognate work experience.

 

FURTHER EDUCATION:

An ND graduate with CGPA of 2.50 and above can apply for direct entry to university for B.Sc in Urban and Regional Planning and other related Environmental courses.

A HND holder with CGPA 2.50 and above can also apply for direct entry for B.Sc in Urban and Regional Planning other Environmental related courses.

A HND holder with at least 3.00 CGPA is also qualified to apply for Post Graduate Diploma (P.GD) in Urban and Regional Planning which will qualify the candidate to apply for MBA  or other Environmental  related courses.

CAREER OPPORTUNITY

An urban planner or regional planner, helps a community decide how to best use its land and resources  toward future growth and revitalization. He or she usually works for a local government. An urban planner or regional planner recommends locations for roads, schools and other infrastructure in order to help local officials solve social, economic and environmental problems.
